The FA18 E/F Super Hornet is an evolutionary upgrade of the combat-proven night strike FA18 C/D Hornet. The Super Hornet offers improved avionics, greater range/endurance, heavier payload, enhanced survivability and built-in potential to incorporate future systems and technologies to meet emerging threats, all while maintaining air combat capability equal to that of the C/D. Fully capable both air-to-air and air-to-ground, the FA18 E/F will perform a spectrum of missions, including air superiority, day/night strike with precision-guided weapons, fighter escort, close air support, suppression of enemy air defenses, reconnaissance, forward air control and tanker. FA18 E/F models are powered by two F414-GE-400 turbofan engines. The F414 is itself an evolutionary upgrade of GE's F404 engine. My work with the FA18 Flight Control System project at GE involved designing functional test software and fixturing for modules within the FCS signal conditioning and A/D conversion of analog LVDT signals from the flight surfaces to digital information for processing by the flight control computer. Power supplies in the Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) of the F414s powering the Super Hornet were tested using software I designed. |
