LabVIEW is based on the graphical G programming language from National Instruments.  It is different from traditional text-based programming languages becasue programs are written by wiring the data inputs and outputs between code objects.  The graphical interface and dataflow nature of LabVIEW allow the programmer to concentrate on the logic of an application instead of the syntax of the programming language.  This focus allows more rapid development of custom applications
