| Northrup Grumman (originally Fairchild) A10 Thunderbolt II |

Although it's easy to see why
everyone refers to the A10 as the Warthog, its official nickname is Thunderbolt
II in honor of the P47 Thunderbolt of WWII fame. Like its ancestor, the
Thunderbolt II was concieved and designed for close air support and ground attack.
The A-10 is a tank's worst nighmare. Designed around the GAU-8 multibarrel 30mm
cannon firing depleted uranium penatrators, the A-10 is ugly in form but georgeous
in function. It is remarkably maneuverable and deadly at low speeds and low
altitudes and can remain on station for extended periods. The Head-Up Display (HUD)
and Low Altitude Safety and Targetting Enhancement (LASTE) built by GE ensure accurate
weapons delivery. Carrying 16,000 pounds of Maverick missles and unguided bombs in
addition to the 30mm gun, the Warthog pulverises enemy armor.
Both the LASTE and HUD for the A-10 use power supplies
which have been functionally tested in the factory by software I designed on a platform I
developed while at GE. |
